The Gather Blanket

The Gather Blanket is a familiar and much-loved design, reimagined in Scheepjes Cotton Create DK. Originally published as the Colour Shuffle Blanket in YARN – The After Party 152, this refreshed version keeps the heart of the pattern intact while exploring a new look and feel through the soft, breathable, natural fibres.

Built from 24 crocheted squares, the design moves beyond the classic granny square. Each square features a criss-cross pattern of eyelets with textured puff stitches at the centre of each diamond, adding depth and interest. The squares are joined together before finishing the blanket with a gently scalloped border that gathers the whole piece together. After blocking, the finished blanket measures approximately 90 x 130cm (36 x 52in).

A neutral base colour creates a sense of balance, while a varied selection of contrasting shades adds rhythm and movement across the surface. This makes the Gather Blanket a rewarding project for playing with colour, whether you enjoy the carefully planned palette featured or prefer working intuitively with combinations that catch your eye.

The pattern includes crochet charts for the squares, the joins and the border, supporting confident making throughout. Any leftover yarn from this project can also be used to make the Loft Plant Hanger from the same booklet, making this a satisfying way to use your yarn right to the last metre.
