Loft Plant Hanger

By Liz Barraclough

A quick and satisfying project for adding height and texture to your indoor jungle. Hang the Loft Plant Hanger near a bright window, in a quiet corner, or anywhere you’d like sculptural or trailing greenery to thrive without taking up space on shelves, sills or side tables.

This design takes a slightly different route to traditional macramé, using a knitting mill to create i-cord. It offers a faster way to make braided cord than a classic knitting Nancy. The cords are looped over a wooden ring and finished with simple knots to form a supportive hanger. The construction is methodical, with plenty of opportunity to pause and check the balance as you go.

The hanger is designed to support a plant pot measuring around 11cm in diameter and 11cm high, and measures approximately 80cm in length, though it’s easy to adapt if needed.

Made using smooth, strong Scheepjes Cotton Create DK, you can choose colours to complement your foliage and suit either a contemporary or retro interior. As only small amounts of yarn are required, this makes a great stash-busting project. If you’re making the Gather Blanket from the same publication, it’s also a lovely way to use any leftover yarn you already have.

The Loft Plant Hanger pattern includes full written instructions and is part of Scheepjes Pattern Portfolio Volume 07: Cotton Create, featuring six projects across knitting, crochet and macramé. The booklet is available in print from Scheepjes retailers and as a digital download on Ravelry, in English and Dutch.
