In Bloom Cushions

By Lucy Djevdet

Bring the beauty of nature indoors with the In Bloom Cushions, a radiant duo of botanically inspired designs interpreted with a modern, graphic feel. What do you see? A seed head, perhaps, or a perfectly formed flower in full summer bloom.

The smaller cushion, measuring around 30cm (12in) in diameter, is all about soft detail. Puff stitches create gentle texture, while a playful ruffle border adds a light-hearted flourish. Featured in three warm shades of Scheepjes Colour Crafter, the colour placement is reversed on the back — a thoughtful detail that makes efficient use of yarn and offers a subtle variation when turned.

Bigger in scale, the striking 35cm (13¾in) cushion uses tapestry crochet, with post stitches forming the bold surface design. Popcorn stitches add bursts of texture that suggest seeds nestled in pods. Worked in joined rounds and seamed into place, the design holds its shape with a softly stretched finish.

Styled together in coordinating colours or displayed as stand-alone pieces, these cushions offer a satisfying way to explore shape and stitch on an achievable scale.

Available in Scheepjes Pattern Portfolio Volume 3: Colour Crafter as a printed booklet in Dutch and English (UK terminology) via Scheepjes retailers, or as a digital download via Ravelry.
