Embellished Witch Hat

Stitching witches and wizards are invited to conjure up their own magical hats using needle and thread! The Embellished Witch Hat by Liz Barraclough is cut from 3mm Queen’s Quality Felt, which gives structure and just the right degree of floppiness to the wide brim. Easy to use HKM Iron-On Star Patches and sparkling DMC Light Effects thread are used to decorate the crown before it’s assembled into a cone shape and hand stitched to the brim. And here is where a cute pom-pom spider, made with Scheepjes River Washed yarn, has made itself a home! The pattern includes dimensions for adapting the hat to fit a child and tips for working with metallic thread.

Materials

Scheepjes River Washed (78% Cotton, 22% Acrylic; 50g/130m)

• 949 Yarra x 1 ball 50 x 90cm

• piece of 3mm black felt
• 15 x HKM iron-on patch purple star
• 1 spool Amman Silk Finish cotton no.50 black thread
• 1 skein DMC Light Effects metallic embroidery silver thread
• Quilting clips
• ø 45mm pompom maker (optional)
• 2 x ø 6mm purple safety eyes
• 1 strip of corrugated cardboard (e.g. from box), 3 x 35cm
• 4 x black pipe cleaners
• 2 x pencils
• 1 x A1 piece of paper Basic sewing kit + iron
• Hot glue gun or PVA glue
