Special stitches

SS - Standing Stitch: When you start a new round with a new color, you can make a Standing Stitch beginning. The Standing Stitch can be e.g. Double crochet or treble. If this is an unfamiliar method, please find out more info and video tutorials from internet. If you prefer starting rounds with join and chain, feel free to do so. Notice

In beginning start with a double adjustable Magic Ring. Leave the fastening off of the magic ring until after the 8 colors section is complete. If this is unfamiliar, please find out more info and video tutorials from internet.

Pattern

Welcome! Thank You for joining in the Mexican Mandala CAL. This week we are making the center and the center wheel where four different colors will be used. Remember to check out the pictures, they will give you more instructions.

Foundation Round:

Starting with a double adjustable magic ring, make 16 dc into ring. Join to 1st dc with a sl-st, and do not pull up ring until after the 8 sections are complete.

Stitch count: 16 dc.

Round 1: (Pic 1)

ch 1, 2 dc in next 16 sts, join with sl-st to first dc.

Stitch count: 32 dc

Round 2: (Pic 2)

ch 1, dc in the same st, dc in next sts, join with sl-st to first dc

Stitch count: 32 dc

Round 3 and 4: (Pic 3) same as round 2

Fasten off and secure ends.

Stitch count: 32 dc

Round 5:

From this round on there will be four different colors to work with and in two sections. You will be working on both sides, on the right side and on the wrong side. Remember to keep the yarns running always on the wrong side of work when changing the color. Color changes are always made in the last dc. The repeat *-* is to be made in every color. Hint: adding stitches will always be made on the front side of work.

Color 1: SS dc in any dc, dc in next 3 dc, change color in last dc, (Pic 1-4, arrow shows new color) continue color 2: dc in next 4 dc (change color in last dc), color 3: dc in next 4 dc (change color in last dc), color 4: dc in next 4 dc. Do not cut off the yarns!

Stitch count: 16 dc

Round 6: Note: remember to keep unused yarn at the back of work so it can be picked up when changing colors.

Turn (wrong side), ch 1, dc in same st (from now on first sc is in same space as join), dc in next 3 dc, change color in last dc, *dc in next 4 dc, change color in last dc *, repeat *-* 3 times.

Stitch count: 16 dc

Round 7:

Turn (right side) ch 1, *2 dc in same dc, dc in next 2 dc, 2 dc in next st, change color in last dc *, repeat *-* 4 times.

Stitch count: 24 dc

Round 8:

Turn (wrong side) ch 1, *dc in next 6 dc, change color in last dc *, repeat*-* 4 times.

Stitch count: 24 dc

Round 9:

Turn (right side) ch 1, * 2 dc in same dc, dc in next 4 dc, 2 dc in next st, change color in last dc *, repeat *-* 4 times.

Stitch count: 32 dc

Round 10:

Turn (wrong side) ch 1, * dc in next 8 dc, change color in last dc *, repeat *-* 4 times

Stitch count: 32 dc

Round 11:

Turn (right side), ch 1, * 2 dc in same dc, dc in next 6 dc, 2 dc in next st, change color in last dc *, repeat *-* 4 times

Stitch count: 40 dc

Round 12:

Turn (wrong side), ch 1, * dc in next 10 dc, change color in last dc *, repeat *-* 4 times.

Stitch count: 40 dc

Round 13:

Turn (right side), ch 1, * 2 dc in same dc, dc in next 8 dc, 2 dc in next st, change color in last dc *, repeat *-* 4 times.

Stitch count: 48 dc

Round 14:

Turn (wrong side), ch 1, * dc in next 12 dc, change color in last dc *, repeat *-* 4 times.

Stitch count: 48 dc

Round 15:

Turn (right side), ch 1, * 2 dc in same dc, dc in next 10 dc, 2 dc in next st, change color in last dc *, repeat *-* 4 times.

Stitch count: 56 dc

Round 16:

Turn (wrong side), ch 1, *dc in next 14 dc, change color in last dc *, repeat *-* 4 times.

Stitch count: 56 dc

Round 17:

Turn (front side), ch 1, * 2 dc in same dc, dc in next 12 dc, 2 dc in next st, change color in last dc *, repeat *-* 4 times.

Stitch count: 64 dc

Round 18:

Turn (wrong side), ch 1, *dc in next 16 dc, change color in last dc *, repeat *-* 4 times.

Stitch count: 64 dc

Round 19:

Turn (front side), ch 1, * 2 dc in same dc, dc in next 14 dc, 2 dc in next st, change color in last dc *, repeat *-* 4 times.

Stitch count: 72 dc

Round 20:

Turn (wrong side), ch 1, *dv in next 18 dc, change color in last dc *, repeat *-* 4 times.

Stitch count: 72 dc

Round 21:

Turn (right side), ch 1, * 2 dc in same dc, dc in next 16 dc, 2 dc in next st, change color in last dc *, repeat *-* 4 times.

Stitch count: 80 dc

Round 22:

Turn (wrong side), ch 1, *dc in next 20 dc, change color in last dc *, repeat *-* 4 times.

Stitch count: 80 dc

Fasten off and secure all ends.

Now you are ready to do the remaining colors of the circle. Be sure to alternate colors in the same way. Every round is completely the same as rounds 5 to 22.

Sew the two seams together invisibly.

Stitch count: 160 dc

The first week is complete.
